An 19-year old student at the University Of Texas-Brownsville was attacked as she was heading to class this morning.
An attack in broad daylight, is making students, feel un-easy.
Campus Police say, a 19 year old student, was getting out of her car, in this parking lot, heading for class at the Education building across the street, when she was suddenly punched in the face.
The victim, got a good suspect description, and license plate number, and called campus police immediately...
Shortly after, they caught 22-year old, Rafael Cabido for the attack.
The victim, was taken to the hospital for cuts under her eye, and for bruises on her face.
She told police she did not know her attacker.
Campus police say, the victim called them from her cell phone, but if you don't have a cell phone, all you gotta do is use one of these emergency phones located all over campus, and push this red button if you need help.
With this surprise attack, students like, Sophomore, Victoria Saenz say, security could be a little tighter on campus, and everyone needs to pay attention for their own good.
"It's scary being a female, especially now, you caught me walking by myself."
Saens says the best thing someone can do in a dangerous situation is use quick-thinking.
"Even something as simple as a pen or pencil, in your hand anything, i'm sure they don't expect to be stabbed back."
Other students, have more safety ideas....
"I try and walk as fast as i can, and at least have my car keys ready to try and avoid talking to strangers."
Cabido now faces aggravated assault and dwi charges.
UT-B officials say, incidents like this are very rare on their campus.
They even sent out an e-mail to all students and staff, telling them to take caution, and to always be aware of their surroundings.
