The federal government won the battle over land for the border wall and last week a federal judge ordered Eloisa Tamez to give the government immediate possession of her land.
U.S. District Judge Andrew Hannen says the government has a right to a quarter acre of her three acres of land west of Rancho Viejo. Tamez argued that government officials did not giver her enough information about the wall and the access that would be available from her land, as well as it's offer of compensation.
The same judge rejected government requests that a land commission be established to determine how much they would pay property owners for their land. Tamez and other property owners in South Texas will argue their case on compensation before a jury later this year. The government offered $8,500 dollars for the quarter acre and $5,000 dollars for the negative impact on the remaining land.
