A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent is now in custody after allegedly shooting a man early this morning.

Police say it happened at approximately 2:30 a.m. this morning at the 5400 block of North 15th Street in McAllen.

Randal Wayne Sutterfield, 41, is accused of shooting his girlfriend's brother in the head.  The victim is recovering at a local hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

Sutterfield allegedly fled the scene after the shooting and was detained by authorities at the Falfurrias checkpoint.

He is now in the custody of McAllen police and was arrested for Criminal Attempted Murder, which is a second degree felony.  His arraignment is pending.
