US Congressman Filemon Vela who represents District 34 says that any income he makes during the shutdown will be given to three charities: The Moody Clinic in Brownsville, Ninos Headstart, and the Community Action Network in Alice, Texas.

"Due to the fact so many federal workers were getting furloughed and our own staff members even though they continue to work and will not get paid at the end of the month, I just felt like it wasn't right for us to receive pay while all the other folks are not getting paid, some of the Congressman made the decision to donate it to charity.”said Vela.

Debbie Sears is the executive director at the Moody Clinic. The clinic helps around 75 children with physical, occupational, and speech therapy. She applauds the Congressman's generosity.

"We are an non-profit rehab facility and we have many children who come in and have no resources and don't have the money so we have to find the resources for that. This will be very beneficial to some of our families the children might not receive the services they desperately need to get better."said Sears.

Sarah Trstenjak has six children; three of them have received treatment at the clinic. Thursday she took her for son for physical therapy.
She thinks it’s great the congressman is giving his salary to such a great organization.

"You have three of them that have 20 plus years experience, it’s phenomenal they are caring they are kind, my son was having some real issues, I was concerned, now he walks, and he runs I am very grateful for them."
