UPTA Report Looks at Highlights of HESTEC

EDINBURG - The Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology program, known as HESTEC, celebrated it's 10th anniversary this year and Sandra Quintanilla shares the highlights from a week filled with activities and exciting competitions.

About a thousand science and math teachers challenged themselves by creating fun, hands on STEM projects and learning new, innovative ways to excite their students back in the classroom during HESTEC Educator Day. They also heard inspiring words from the Executive Director of the Planetary Society and former host of the popular Children's Television program Bill Nye the Science Guy. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa and a roundtable of representatives from major corporations, schools and government agencies also shared with the educators successful strategies to encourage young people to pursue STEM fields.
