For Amanda McCallister and several others with no place to go, freezing temperatures in the Upper Valley means that life will be even more difficult.
But thanks to the Salvation Army they now have a warm place to stay.
Officials at the Salvation Army in McAllen say they're in disaster mode.
Since the cold temperatures arrived they have been working around the clock to help the less fortunate.
Juan Gomez, Resource Director at the shelter says that even though they've given out several blankets, food and jackets they could use a little help themselves.
The Salvation Army says it will still do whatever it can to help and want people to know the only requirement for a donation is a proper I.D. Mr. Gomez tells us even though the shelter is almost at capacity, their doors will remain open.
If you would like to hep the less fortunate stay war, the Salvation Army is accepting all donations.
