It was a day to be thankful. A day for some to reminisce. A day to honor the 1.3 million military men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

Early this morning, several people gathered at the Veterans War Memorial of Texas in McAllen.
Veterans from every war came by to pay their respects. Not forgetting very how lucky they are to be alive.

Many Veterans find comfort at the war memorial.
In just a few days, construction will begin on the much anticipated "American Spire of Honor."
It will be placed at the center of the memorial and will stand over 100 ft tall. Officials say the new addition will change the city of McAllen forever.

The "Spire of Honor" will be completed by the end of the year. The creators of the project say they hope it will help people remember those who paid freedom's highest price for generations to come.
