Upper Valley Firefighters Reflect on 9/11
It's a moment in history we will always remember and for emergency personnel who had to watch their own perish, it will always be difficult to forget.
The McAllen Fire Department is one of many across the nation who will honor the victims of the September 11th attacks this weekend. With that honor comes a mixture of emotions...
343 emergency personnel lost their lives that fateful day showcasing the dangers of a very tough profession. The attacks may have detoured many people from joining the service but here in McAllen we found that it motivated them to join the fire service.
Ten years ago these men didn't even know they wanted to be firefighters. Despite the potential threats, the department has recruited several new fire fighters through out the years.
If anything positive could have come out the attacks it's the increased awareness. Fire fighters new and old have received specialized training to prepare for the worst case scenario. These men say they're ready to take on anything, no matter what.
