University of Texas at Brownsville Considering Downtown Campus
BROWNSVILLE — Community leaders gathered on Thursday afternoon in downtown Brownsville to discuss future development for the area and the University of Texas at Brownsville. Plans for a new campus have been discussed since the separation of UTB and Texas Southmost College and downtown is one of the areas that is being considered. Urban Designer Brent Brown stated, "In the very near future, as in the next three week, the UT system will vote to stay downtown or to leave downtown as the result of the separation. The opportunity to have UTB stay in downtown can accelerate the urbanism and opportunity for jobs, vibrancy and really be like no other city in America."
