BROWNSVILLE - The University of Texas at Brownsville honored veterans at an event held on campus on Thursday.

The event was hosted by the Veterans Upward Bound Program and took place on the Cardenas South Lawn. Attendees at the event included the university's ROTC Bravo Troop, the International Christian Center of Brownsville, American Legion Post 43 and many other military instructors and veterans. War veteran Major Raul Salinas Jr. stated, "You feel great that you have served your country because every time I go to a store in my uniform, down here, I get a thank you for my services. I always get a thank you and you feel good about it. Sometimes you think that people don't care, but people do care and I am proud of all the citizens here in the Rio Grande Valley."

The university will take part in a remembrance day national roll call from 6 AM to 2 PM at Gorgas Hall on Friday.
