In Starr County, two cases of "Strain A" influenza have been confirmed in two middle school students. This strain has similar symptoms to the swine flu. Health officials have forced the middle school, where the students attend, to shut down for the rest of the week.
Starr County could have two cases of swine flu on their hands.
Right now, there are two confirmed cases of type "A" flu, which could be the swine flu.
Doctors tell News Center 23, there are many kinds of type "A" flu.
Just because someone has type "A" flu does not mean they necessarily have swine flu.
Doctors say, if you have type "B" flu, you definitely do not have swine flu.
With two students at Rio Grande City's Veterans Middle School being diagnosed with type "A" flu, which carries the swine flu strain, school administrators decided to close down the school for the rest of the week.
Superintendent, Roel Gonzalez says both students are being treated for severe coughs, fevers and runny noses.
These are all symptoms of the swine flu.
The school district wants to make sure all their students and staff are safe and that this virus does not spread.
Tonight, News Center 23 asked valley residents what they think about this scare at the school..
Rosa Gutierrez says, "Well it's a little scary, that it's here, scary but i was kind of expecting it, was only a matter of time because we're so close to the border."
Mayra Hinojosa says, "It's a little bit scary, we all need to take our precautions, wash our hands, use hand sanitizer, to prevent it from hitting us."
Residents say, they are following the doctors orders on cleanliness to prevent themselves from getting sick.
The Texas State Health Department and The Center for Disease Control are investigating these cases.
The school will be holding a news conference tomorrow morning.
For now -- the Superintendent is urging any parents who have children in the school to bring their children to a doctor if they have any flu- like symptoms.
