TxDOT campaign "Faces of Drunk Driving" remembers victims
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The Texas Department of Transportation wants you to meet the victims of drunk driving.
In an event called the Faces of Drunk Driving, TxDOT has displayed the car of a 20 year-old who was hit by a drunk driver.
It also showed off more than 1,100 flags, one to signify a Texan killed, in alcohol related crashes every year as Traffic Safety Specialist Ruby Martinez stated, "The holiday period is one of the most dangerous times and with Fourth of July right around the corner, in just a few days, it's more so dangerous. Last year in 2012, on our Texas highways, there were 133 alcohol related crashes just during the Independence Day holiday."
Last year, 1,170 people were killed on Texas highways because of alcohol.
