TxDOT is teaming up with UTPA to spread drunk driving awareness in anticipation of Labor Day weekend.

Local police helped with the event and showed students what happens as the result of a drunk driving arrest.

Students also got the chance to be in a simulated jail cell to see a glimpse of the harsh reality of life behind bars, those who participated learned the consequences of a DWI.

Edwin Garza, UTPA Student commented, "They made me get into a jump suit, they took me into jail and basically took my mug shot. It wasn't fun, I realize now it's not worth the partying or drinking and driving."

Mission Police Officer Cpl. Manuel Casas stated, "They put their efforts in these colleges because we know that a lot of the accidents that are occurring where there's fatalities is usually very young people. All the police departments are happy because this is bringing awareness to the public that if you drink and drive and you get caught, you're gonna go to jail."
