TXDOT through the Texas Traffic Safety Program Grant Agreement for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) Grant was awarded to the Brownsville Police Department on December 12, 2013.

This grant will help the department increase DWI patrols over the weekends and holidays. The goal is to increase the effective enforcement and reduce fatal and serious injury crashes.

The STEP IDM enforcement began on Friday December 13th and will run through the beginning of January 2014.

Drivers are encouraged to have a designated driver if they intend to drink and avoid the risk of having an accident or being arrested.

The $26,778.89 is a matching grant between TDOT and the Brownsville Police Department that is intended to help the department pay for overtime officers who will patrol during peak times.
