TSTC Remembers Victims of Domestic Violence
HARLINGEN - October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and at Texas State Technical College a candlelight vigil was held to remember those victims.
At the ceremony, victims names were read and their life stories were told including how they died. The Family Crisis Center says that more victims should come forward to get help. Brenda Heredia from the center stated, "This problem will never be stopped until family members speak up and speak out and make an issue of the fact there is domestic violence occurring in their homes. Unfortunately it's been in the past don't talk about it's a family issue because people are dying over it."
An alarming statistic is more than three women and one man are killed everyday in the United States from domestic violence.
