TSC President Dr. Tercero accepts Ice Bucket Challenge
BROWNSVILLE, TX — Texas Southmost College (TSC) President, Dr. Lily F. Tercero will join the Ice Bucket Challenge movement today by accepting the challenge from Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) Superintendent, Dr. Carl A. Montoya to donate $100 to Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research, or dump a bucket of ice water on her head. By choosing the latter, she must post the video on Facebook and challenge three people to follow suit.
ALS, more commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells and pathways in the brain and spinal cord. When these cells die, voluntary muscle control and movement dies with them. According to The ALS Association, as of Thursday, August 21, the Ice Bucket Challenge, which has taken the United States by storm, has been credited with dramatically elevating ALS awareness and raising $41.8 million in donations.
