...TROPICAL STORM ARLENE MOVING CLOSER TO THE COAST OF MEXICO...

DEEP TROPICAL MOISTURE WILL MOVE INTO DEEP SOUTH TEXAS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AS TROPICAL STORM ARLENE MOVES WESTWARD TOWARD THE EASTERN MEXICAN COAST TONIGHT AND THURSDAY. OCCASIONAL HEAVY RAIN BANDS WILL AFFECT THE LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON THROUGHOUT THE OVERNIGHT HOURS INTO THURSDAY AS ARLENE MOVES IN OVER THE MEXICAN COAST WELL SOUTH OF TAMPICO MEXICO THURSDAY MORNING. THE OVERALL RAINFALL AMOUNTS THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT WILL RANGE 1 TO 3 INCHES IN GENERAL WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS RANGING FROM 3 TO 5 INCHES. ALTHOUGH NO WIDESPREAD FLOODING PROBLEMS ARE EXPECTED FOR DEEP SOUTH TEXAS THIS WEEK WITH THIS RAIN EVENT...MINOR FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS AND ROADWAYS WILL BE LIKELY.

WITH THE TROPICAL STORM MOVING INLAND WELL SOUTH OF THE AREA THURSDAY MORNING...WINDS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BEAR ANY SIGNIFICANT IMPACT TO DEEP SOUTH TEXAS. EASTERLY WINDS OF 15 TO 20 MPH WITH SOME GUSTS TO 20 TO 25 MPH WILL PREVAIL TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY.

THE MARINE AND BEACH CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO DETERIORATE TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY. SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES ARE IN EFFECT FOR THE OFFSHORE WATERS OF THE LOWER TEXAS COAST TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY. THE GULF WINDS WILL RANGE FROM 20 TO 30 KNOTS WITH SOME HIGHER
GUSTS POSSIBLE IN EMBEDDED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS. THE GULF SWELLS WILL INCREASE TO 8 TO 10 FEET THIS AFTERNOON AND THESE ELEVATED GULF SWELLS WILL LIKELY PERSIST INTO THURSDAY. DEEP SOUTH TEXAS MARINERS ARE URGED TO REMAIN IN PORT UNTIL TROPICAL STORM ARLENE
MOVES WELL INLAND ACROSS EASTERN MEXICO ON THURSDAY. ALONG THE BEACHES...THE RIP CURRENT RISK HAS BEEN ELEVATED TO HIGH AND WILL REMAIN HIGH THROUGH THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY AND A HIGH SURF ADVISORY HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR THE LOWER TEXAS COAST FROM THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING.
