Trial underway on former deputy accused of being involved in the drug trade
McAllen, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — The trial has begun for a former Hidalgo County Sheriff's Deputy accused of being involved in the Valley drug trade.
Opening arguments were delivered at the federal courthouse in McAllen on Tuesday as Jorge Garza's trial got underway.
The government believes that Garza and others used their official position to stop drug traffickers and then take their load, only to resell it to other dealers.
Garza is the only person accused in the affair to to to trial, the others pleaded guilty, some of those 'others' are actually scheduled to testify as the trial continues this week.
