Tragedy In The Rio Grande

Authorities searched for hours on both sides of the Rio Grande for a child, who they believe could've drowned.
News Center 23 was the only station on hand to watch as crews searched for the boy.
Firefighters say, a mother and her child were swimming in the river, when it turned into a sad situation around 3pm.
It happened off Monsees Road, along the border in Brownsville.
Border Patrol agents, Fire and Rescue teams searched for a five-year old boy, in the Rio Grande.
They say, the water got too rough for the boy and his mom.
Luckily, rescue teams were able to pull the mother out.
When they found her, they say, she was un-responsive, but she is now responsive, and is currently being treated at Brownsville's Valley Baptist Medical Center.
This afternoon, It was a team effort. Even many Mexican Residents could be seen on the other side, looking for the child.
Boats could also be seen going up and down the river, searching.
Cameron County Sheriff Deputies were also on hand to help with the search.
Firefighters tell us, today, there was a strong undercurrent in the river, which is taking things up-river at this time.
Authorities say, they will call off the search for now, but they will continue to monitor the waters for any signs of the child.
