Police say he was under water for over a minute. a good samaritan pulled him out just in time.
Officials say it's the time of year to stay aware especially when it comes to children. As a matter of fact accidental drowning is one of the leading causes of death among young children.
Over 35 children have drowned across the state. This year alone 8 of those deaths happened here in South Texas.
According to the Department of Family and Protective Services, the South Texas region has more accidental drownings than any other region in the state.
51% percent of the incidents happened at a pool but it can pretty much happen anywhere. Anybody of water can be dangerous to a child. It can be a pool, it can be a lake, it can be a creek but it could also be something as simple as a bathtub, a toilet, or a bucket.
Last month was the deadliest this year.Fifteen children drowned.
DFPS says the best way to prevent a tragedy is to keep your children in sight... at all times.
Observation, supervision, and interaction. If you care engaging in those three activities with your child, it will greatly reduce something tragic from happening.
As thousands of families try to cool off and beat the heat this summer DFPS recommends teaching your entire family to swim.
It can be a great family activity, one that can ultimately save your child's life.
