Toddler Birthday Brawl
Five injured when 3-year-old's birthday party descends into chaos.
A birthday party for a 3-year-old turned into a brawl at a party hall in Elmwood Place, Ohio overnight Tuesday.
Police said the mother and step-father threw the party for the child and invited the child's biological father.
At some point during the party the biological father, Ramon Marcela-Hernandez, 26, made a move on the mother, which angered the step-father, police said.
Marcela-Hernandez left, but returned with a few more people, police said.
Police said a fight broke out just after 1 a.m. between the two men and beer bottles and chairs were thrown.
Reports said that at one point, 75 people were involved in the brawl.
"You're gonna need a lot more cops than you have now," a 911 caller told a dispatcher. The caller said at least 15 people were bleeding.
Elmwood Place Chief William Peskin said when his officers arrived, they couldn't even get inside initially because of the number of people and items being thrown.
Peskin said five people were injured in the fight.
One of the injured was stabbed in the eye with a broken bottle and is undergoing surgery, Peskin said.
Peskin said the investigation is being impeded by lack of cooperation and language barriers.
Marcela-Hernandez is charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated.
Peskin said other charges are possible as the investigation continues.
