A U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter crashed early Friday morning in Brooks County.

Custom and Border Protection officials report that the crash of an AS-350 helicopter occurred at around 8:00 a.m.  with two CBP and one Border Patrol agent onboard.

All three sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

The Department of Homeland Security released a statement regarding the incident saying, “At 8:10 a.m. on Jan. 10, two U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air Interdiction Agents (AIA) and one U.S. Border Patrol Agent were injured in a AS-350 helicopter crash near Falfurrias, Texas, after the pilot made an emergency landing. All three of the injured CBP personnel were taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.”

The American Eurocopter AS-350 helicopter is a short range, turbine powered air craft used by the CBP Office of Air and Marine for missions of aerial patrol and surveillance.

The helicopter has such technology as electro optical/infrared sensors and is able to provide intelligence and support for ground patrol when needed.
