BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — “Three…two…one…(beep)”
It's game on for these little athletes, at least for the next few days. They're participating in Run The Walk's brief basketball camp at St. Joseph Academy in Brownsville. The program's co-founder AJ Bramlett says it's all about having fun and pursuing "hoop dreams.
“Run the Walk Program is something that we put together to really inspire kids to go above and beyond what’s asked of them and go above and beyond expectations.”
“Over 75 kids came to the gym at St. Joseph Academy to have some fun and receive some tips on how to play basketball.”
“On the free throws, I haven’t been bending far enough with my knees so now I have and I’ve been making more.”
“I didn’t know how to do right-hand layups because since I’m a leftie I’m used to shooting it with my left, but now he’s making my shots be a lot better.”
Run The Walk will be traveling to other cities in Texas and New Mexico, hosting basketball camps and 5K runs. The program founders are hoping to make a lasting impression in the Valley while they can.
“You just hope that they take one or two things away, whether that’s to become a better shooter, whether that means to know to hustle, to listen better. We do a lot of different things to help them with listening as well, just to help them really feel like they’re really a part of something special and that they really by in and they’ve done that today.”
