After thousands of people waited in a line that wrapped all the way around the entire Jacob Brown Auditorium and nearly onto the street, they swarmed into the packed building to enjoy the 21st annual "HEB Feast of Sharing Dinner".

"Today, we're hoping to reach out to over 10,000 individuals that we're able to provide a warm meal to," said HEB public information officer Linda Tovar. "That's what we want to do today, for those families that this might be the only warm meal that they have for the holiday season."

And that warm meal included lots of familiar Thanksgiving favorites.

"They're enjoying various turkey dinners with lots of sides like mashed potatoes, melody vegetables, you know, cranberry sauce, and this really delicious gravy. In addition, we'll provide a really nice pumpkin pie dessert," said Tovar.

But those turkey dinners wouldn't be possible without the help of HEB volunteers and various Brownsville community officials.

"They're the most committed people to our community of Brownsville of anybody," said volunteer administrator Millie Esser. "They're so generous in their time and money and talent and the way they treat their customers."

"The students are just excited about being here today," said Alberto Velez. "They wanted to give back, be a part of a great community service project like this one."

"The Police Department supports HEB and this event every year because you can imagine the thousands of people who come out here for this event requires a lot of security, supervision, so we like to have the police presence here to work alongside HEB to make sure things go smoothly," said police chief Orlando Rodriguez.

And the guests enjoyed it too:

"It was very good," said guest Magalee Martinez. "This is the third or fourth year I come."

"This event...this is the first time I come but I totally loved it," said guest Noemy Avila. "The food was awesome and just people were really nice, it shows us how God blesses us every day and everything was so fun."
