A car chase in Peñitas ends with a big bust. Officers found hundreds of pounds of marijuana and arrested the driver.
26-year-old Juan Antonio Gonzalez led a half a dozen police agencies on a dangerous chase this morning. It started in Peñitas and ended in Mission.
“One of our officers was patrolling on Expressway 83. He committed a traffic violation and tried to pull him over.”
But Gonzalez refused to stop and took off instead. The Peñitas Department was assisted by Mission Police, Palmview Police, Sheriff Constables, DPS and the U.S. Border Patrol. The suspect drove through Peñitas, Palmview and into Mission.
This pursuit took many twists and turns. Gonzalez drove against traffic, struck traffic barriers and almost rammed into a mission police unit.
“It was pretty dangerous. The guy was driving erratically.”
He made his way back to the expressway but that's when it all came to an end. According to Peñitas Police Chief, Oscar Ontiveros, the suspect's car gave out on Conway and expressway 83 in Mission. After searching the car, police found over 20 bundles of marijuana, totaling 284 pounds. Gonzalez is expected to be charged with possession of marijuana and evading arrest.
