New Jersey cop sheds 376 pounds.

It took trip to the emergency room and harsh words from a doctor before a morbidly obese police officer realized he needed to turn his life around.

What happened next astonished everyone.

Adam Slack weighed 585 pounds when the Emergency Room doctor walked in.

"'Mr. Slack, what do you want in your obituary? Do you want a long one? Do you want a short one? It doesn't matter. The hospital will pick up the cost!' And when he said that to me I was at my lowest at that point. I yelled at him! I yelled at him to get out of the room!" Slack recalls.

It was 2008 and Slack knew he needed to lose weight.

Those cutting words got to him.

"It was just so eye opening," he says. "The light came on. All the wheels just started to turn. At that point in time all I saw was me not being there for my kids!"

Overnight his kids saw adam go from 9000 calories a day to 1,200.

He began taking the family dog for walks and discovered repetitive motion.

It was after one of his son Collin's baseball games that they realized there had been a transformation.

"It just felt really good to be able to wrap my arms around him, and when it happened I had a lot of tears in my eyes because I never thought I'd be able to do it again in my lifetime," Collin says.

"For the first time he gave me a hug, that's when I knew, you know...That's what it was all for," Adam Slack says now.

Slack has lost 376 pounds since that day in the E.R. three years.

"If those words were never spoken I probably wouldn't be standing in front of you today," he says.
