Sweltering summer temperatures settle in.

A brutal summer heat wave is tightening its grip across much of the country.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in at least 23 states, with an excessive heat warning across parts of 10 states in the South and Midwest.

The sweltering temperatures have already proven deadly.

Investigators say his air conditioner was broken.

Hundreds lined up in Oklahoma City looking for help with their electric bills and a little bit of relief.

Temperatures have topped 100 degrees in the area for 14 straight days.

Forecasters say the heat will linger for at least another week.

"In reality what we have is a giant easy bake oven we are living in right now," says associate Oklahoma State Climatologist Gary McManus.

The East Coast is also feeling the heat.

In New York Central Park is sizzling.
