The Hard Way
Man who once topped 600 pounds has lost more than half his weight through diet and exercise.
One California man knows all too well how hard it is to shed extra pounds.
Stephen Lee once tipped the scales at more than 600 pounds and has lost more than 300 without surgery or pills.
He wore a size 7X.
Two years after walking into San Ramon, California's 24 Hour Fitness his life has changed.
He's lost 371 pounds.
His trainer E.J. Costello remembers seeing lee walk through the gym door.
"I walked over to him and introduced myself as a trainer, started giving him tips and advice to show him how he could maximize his time at the gym," Costello recalls.
Lee changed his diet, got rid of processed foods and started eating healthy.
"Not only was I motivating him, he was motivating me and the way I train my clients," says Costello. "If he can do it, a guy pushing almost 700 pounds, just about anybody can do it."
Lee lived years without a meaningful job.
24 Hour Fitness club manager Butch Cooper was so impressed with him, he hired lee as a team leader.
"Exercise and nutrition is not easy. Here is a person that had an insurmountable amount of weight to lose and he said, you know, I'm going to do this," Cooper says.
"The one thing I hear the most is, 'I remember when you started, I watched your transition. I watched your journey.' I love to hear it every time. It's awesome," Lee says now.
