The $10,000 Mistake
Mitt Romney catches heat for latest GOP debate gaffe.
NBC's latest poll shows Newt Gingrich widening his lead in Florida and South Carolina, and his fellow Republicans are going after him.
During Saturday's ABC debate Ron Paul blasted Gingrich's Freddie Mac consulting fees.
"In a way Newt, you got some of the taxpayer's money," Paul said.
Rick Perry's jabs were more personal, taking aim at Gingrich's past infidelities.
"If you cheat on your wife, you'll cheat on your business partner," Perry said.
"People have to render judgment. In my case, I said up front openly, I've made mistakes at times. I've had to go to God for forgiveness," Gingrich responded.
Mitt Romney may have ended up losing the most ground during the debate thanks to his own gaffe.
Romney attempted to bet Rick Perry $10,000 the Texas governor couldn't back up his claims about Romney's controversial Massachusetts health care laws.
"Having an extra $10,000 that you can throw down on bets just seems very out of the ordinary," Perry responded.
That's what Democrats are saying, too.
The $200 million candidate was betting what amounts to about two-and-a-half months salary in Iowa.
Romney's still confident, however, telling reporters Sunday "I'm going to get the nomination".
