Texas teen suspect arrested in girl's murder
Police say 6-year-old girl was sexually assault and killed by a 17-year-old.
Yellow crime tape all mixed up with purple ribbons, once again.
The purple honoring a murdered six-year-old.
The yellow means her accused killer has been caught just two doors down.
"I remember he was a trouble maker."
It had been years since 16-year-old Mikayla Dawson talked with Tyler Holder; but he suddenly texted her just days after Alana Gallagher was found dead.
"He was like, 'So, what have you been up to?' and I was like, 'Oh, nothing,' and he was like, 'Well, yeah. Same. I've just been getting into trouble. The usual.'"
These are pictures from Tyler Holder's Facebook page where he brags repeatedly about getting high.
He lived two houses away from Alana.
According to the arrest affidavit, police questioned him the day after the girl's murder.
He voluntarily gave a DNA sample, three days later.
And July 20th, detectives confirmed a positive match to fluid on Alana's body.
She'd been sexually assaulted.
"I didn't really associate myself with him, but you never sit down on your first day of middle school and think, 'That's gonna be the kid who kills somebody.'"
"We were told when my kids were little I have a son the same age as him. We needed to stay away from him."
Neighbors saw Holder the night of Alana's murder.
They say he was calm, interested in the investigation, but not anxious.
They saw him at a community vigil wearing a t-shirt with one word across his chest: wanted.
"I really can't talk about it, because it will make me upset, but I'm really, really sad for the family, I'm really sad for the little girl. She's in heaven, now. She's watching over other children and letting us all know she's safe."
