Testimony underway in Montemayor capital murder trial
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Testimony was underway on Thursday in the capital murder trial of Omar Montemayor who is accused of killing his estranged wife, Sarah Maxwell Montemayor, her unborn child and her friend, Devan Haynes.
One of Sarah's friend, a woman who lived with her while she was separated from her husband, took the stand describing the night of her death and how Omar Montemayor broke into the Harlingen home.
She stated to jurors she heard banging, crashing and screaming followed by six to eight gunshots and then two more while speaking to a 911 operator.
Not long after Sarah moved into the home, the witness told jurors she made an appointment at a family crisis center to seek help for her friend.
Testimony continues on Friday in the 197th Cameron County courtroom.
