Teen's dream to be DJ fulfilled

A teenager went into a music store in McAllen to window shop some equipment and is going home with his dream fulfilled.

Luigi Garcia is a 15-year-old from Brownsville who the surprise of a party and brand new DJ equipment. "I didn't expect all of this, until I saw all the people coming in," Garcia said. "I got excited."

The whole event at Herme's Music is thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and sponsor Blue Bunny, who supplied all the ice cream. Luigi has osteosarcoma, a cancer of the bone.

After checked out the equipment and folks dried their eyes, he got a DJ lesson from a pair of local spin artists. His computer also comes pre-loaded with all the music he'll ever need. "I get distracted from the past, and get my own moment," Garcia said. "Listening to music helps me relax."

Everyone who makes it through the Make-A-Wish Foundation is asked why. Why choose this particular wish?

Luigi said he wanted to become a DJ to make money and help out his single mom. "He's aware of the economic strain he puts on the family," Luigi's mom, Esmeralda Garcia, said in Spanish. "He thought that if he gets hired to DJ he can contribute in that way even though I tell him not worry about it."

And after loading up all the gear, Luigi knows exactly what he's going to do after getting home. "Set it up and put it on blast," he said.
