PALMVIEW, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A 16-year-old boy is facing aggravated assault charges after stabbing another student today at Palmview High School.
An officer at the campus called La Joya ISD police just before noon after a fight broke out between two 16-year-old students.
One of the boys pulled out a knife and slashed the other student twice--once on the arm and again on his side.
The suspect was immediately detained. The victim's injuries were minor and only required stitches at an outpatient clinic.
"It was not a gang related issue, we're still trying to find out what started the fight," said Raul Gonzalez, La Joya ISD Police Chief. "And the other thing is the school was placed on lockdown as soon as this happened so that we could confirm that it's not going to escalate into something bigger and other kids are not involved."
No other students were injured during the fight.
The lockdown was lifted shortly after the suspect was detained and police cleared the scene.
