A teen who led officers on a multi-city chase on Thursday is now behind bars under a $55,000 dollar bond in Hidalgo county.
That chase began at Veterans Memorial high school in Mission and ended in Sharyland. Officers say 17 year-old David Ortiz stole a car from Alton and then ran into a car in Mission. He did not stop for officers after the crash and instead led officers on a chase.
Police laid out spike strips, but when he tried to avoid them he ran into a tree. Emergency crews took him to the hospital and doctors released him last night. He faced a judge on charges of evading arrest and a accident involving damage.
Alton police will later charge him for the stolen car.
