Teen Arrested In Ridgeway Murder
17-year-old accused in brutal slaying of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.
An arrest has been made in the grisly murder of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.
Police arrested 17-year-old Austin Reed Sigg early Wednesday morning on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping.
He is also accused in the attempted abduction of a female jogger in May of this year.
Ridgeway disappeared while walking to school in Westminster, Colorado the morning of October 5th.
Hundreds of law enforcement and local volunteers searched around the clock for more than a week to find the missing 10-year-old.
Her remains were later discovered in a wooded area just a few miles from her home.
"We notified the Ridgeway family of this arrest and we hope and pray that this arrest brings them some measure of closure in dealing with this enormous loss that they've suffered," Westminster Police Chief Lee Birk said in announcing the arrest.
The 17-year-old also faces attempted kidnapping and attempted murder charges of a jogger he allegedly attacked in the same area of Colorado back in May.
He appears in court to face all of these charges Thursday morning.
