MCALLEN - At the stroke of midnight Friday, the tax-free holiday weekend for the entire state of Texas will kick off.
And here in the Valley, shops and cities are gearing up. With school starting on August 22nd, this money saving event has families preparing to open their wallets.
On average, for ever $100 spent people will save $8. On top of this, La Plaza Mall said that many retailers also have their own additional discounts to add the savings. To help the flow of the weekend run smoothly, La Plaza Mall has worked out a partnership to help shoppers avoid traffic and stay green.
"The City of McAllen and Metro McAllen are teaming up with all of the shopping centers in the area to provide a shopping shuttle. Basically for one dollar they can travel from shopping center to shopping center," said Isabel Rodriguez-Vera, Area Director of Marketing & Business Development.
The La Plaza Mall will be open from Friday through Sunday.
