Police in AL say they busted a multi-million-dollar synthetic marijuana drug ring near UAB.

Police in Alabama say they've busted a multi-million-dollar synthetic marijuana drug operation near The University of Alabama in Birmingham.  29-year-old Seth Batten was arrested on the scene.

"The conditions this stuff was made in this bathroom was horrendous. It was filthy, it was nasty, and they had been shipping this stuff by the millions of dollars worth all over the country."

Lance Dyer knows all too well the dangers of synthetic marijuana.

His son Dakota, shot himself 15 months ago, after he sampled the drug.

"No parent should ever go through what me and Cota's mom went through. No parent should ever have to pick out a casket for his child."

Since his child's death Dyer has made it his mission to shut down spice labs and actually had a part in discovering this operation, based just blocks from The University of Alabama In Burmingham’s campus.

"We knew it was there, we just didn't know how big yet."

But, once inside, you can see what law enforcement officials discovered. Close to 300-thousand dollars in money orders.

And containers where chemicals were literally dumped on top of each other.

"There is no scientific measurements of any of this stuff. They are just pouring it in there."

For over a year, officials say he and his accomplices operated through the ruse of internet based company. Their distribution reached at least 46 states.

"On a scale of 1 to 10, this is probably a 10 for the magnitude of what he was doing."

Officials describe closing down this operation as cutting off the head of the snake.

As for, Dyer he just hopes it will lead to other spice labs being closed so that no other parents have to experience the pain he did.

"My son made a horrible decision. He made a 14-year-old decision to accept it, he made even a worse decision to smoke it."
