After days of training, the brand new San Juan Regional SWAT Team was ready to practice its role for the very first time.
SWAT team members geared up with unloaded weapons, bullet proof vest and protective gear as they were briefed by top officials. Moments later, they were thrown into a fake setting that taught them a whole lot of real life experience. With border violence so close to home police want to be prepared for any possible spill over.
SWAT members were instructed to search a house for weapons, drugs and suspects, even searching places like the attic and places where criminals usually run and hide. The team made fake arrests and treated the scene as if it was real. Police officers from all over the Valley came to assist, Sgt. Rolando Garcia, who trained the SWAT team, wants to make sure that everyone is on the same page.
