Suspicious package found at Southern Methodist University
DALLAS, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Emergency officials say a "suspicious package" has been found at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas.
Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans says the incident was under investigation Tuesday morning. Evans had no immediate details on the nature of what he calls a suspicious package or where the item was located at the center on the campus of Southern Methodist University.
According to Steve Mace, Public Information Officer for University Park , the suspicious package was discovered by security for the Bush Library near the intersection of Benkley and Bush, near the entrance to the parking garage.
Mace describes the package as "small in size." Hazardous material crews are on the scene with bomb squad units en route.
A spokesman for Bush, who lives in Dallas, did not immediately return messages for comment Tuesday.
The George W. Bush Presidential Center was dedicated in April and opened to the public on May 1. The complex includes a 15-acre park filled with native Texas prairie grasses and wildflowers.
