Suspects in ICE Agent Jamie Zapata's death, plead guilty
WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — Three men linked to deadly attack on ICE agent Jamie Zapata, have pleaded guilty to the crime, Julian Zapata Espinoza, 32, a commander in the Zeta's cartel admitted to killing Zapata and injuring his partner Special Agent Avila in 2011 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Two other men also pleaded guilty to the attack, Ruben Dario Venegas Rivera, 25, and Jose Ismael Nava Villagran, 30. As part of their guilty pleas, Espinoza, Rivera and Villagran admitted to being members of Zeta hit squad and to participating directly in the February 15, 2011 ambush.
All four defendants face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
