Suspect who reported burglary arrested for the crime

On April 24 Harlingen Police Officers responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Murphy Dr., in reference to a burglary.

Jorge Silva, 22, from Brownsville, who had been staying at the residence, reported a burglary of a television and a DVD player valued at $580 was missing from the home.

The home owner, who was not present at the time, stated that she would file charges against the person responsible.

Through the course of the investigation, the detective located and recovered the victim's stolen television from a pawn-shop in Brownsville and discovered that Silva had actually stolen and  pawned the property.

The detective obtained arrest warrants for Silva, and police were able to locate him at the same residence.

On June 10, a police task unit arrested Silva on the outstanding warrants, Silva has been charged with theft and false report to a police officer with a bond set at $1,500.
