A smuggler who led La Joya police on a 30 mile car chase faced a judge on Thursday.

Arturo Marcial Alaniz, a Mexican national, was arrested by police on Wednesday and faces charges of evading and possession of marijuana. Police say he stole a car from San Juan and lead them on a chase into La Joya and after the chase police found 500 pounds of marijuana in the car.
