Rodney Villapando has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and bringing a weapon onto a campus at an IDEA Quest school in Edinburg. The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department reported that Villapando turned himself into authorities after he shot his wife in the school parking lot. Judge Jasso denied Villapando a bond and stated why, "Well the reason I didn't do the bond is because of the place that it happened in the school district, you know, can you imagine if it had happened when there is hundreds and hundreds of kids outside? They would have been hurt or killed or whatever and if I set bond and he bails out and he goes out for revenge and goes back and then there is a massacre, I wouldn't be able to live with myself." Judge Jasso also put an emergency protection order on Villapando which makes sure he can't go near the school, the victim or their two children for at least 61 days.
