EDINBURG - Elementary  students from the Edcouch-Elsa School District came out to observe their county government as part of Hidalgo County's Student Leadership Day.

The students met with commissioners, toured the administration buildings, visited a court room and the county clerk's office.

Each student was able to ask questions and take an up-close and personal look at how their county government works and runs.

Just before going to a county commissioners meeting, the students shared what they had learned.

"We've been learning about the government and what they do in the county and what they help," said Paula Delacruz, Student.

"Like how we pay to make our roads and buildings," said Rene Rodriguez, Student.

"Some of them need to like solve cases and find out if it is fair or not," said Jolene Robles, Student.

All the students were then recognized by the county commissioners court and were able to shake hands with each county commissioner.
