The winds were howling Tuesday afternoon.
"These winds are gusting up to 40-45 miles per hour." said Brownsville Fire Chief Lenny Perez.
"Because of the strength of the winds the Cameron County Emergency Management Office is not issuing a permit to burn Tuesday."
Brownsville Fire Chief Lenny Perez says with these conditions it could be a nightmare for his fire fighters to put out a fire if one started up Tuesday.
"With these kind of gusts it can go from an acre to 5 to 10 acres real easily within minutes."
The Brownsville Fire Department is asking people to make sure they are also careful with cigarette butts because in the conditions on Tuesday a fire can spark very easy from them.
