It's a growing crime here in the Rio Grande Valley, we are talking about carjacking and auto thefts at car dealerships.

Balde Gomez is with the Crimestoppers Department for Edinburg Police.  Gomez says, "It involves violence, it involves auto theft and in some of those cases it even involves weapons."

41-year old Juan Carlos Lara is one of the suspects involved in the latest string of carjacking incidents.  Police say he would ask to test drive cars at several dealerships in McAllen on South 23rd street, he then would pull out a gun and take off with the pick-ups.

Police say auto dealerships should always take certain precaution and steps when going out with customers on a test drive, if possible they advice car sales people to go in groups of two.

Gomez also says car dealerships should never fight off a suspect who is armed, it is important to remember that a car is always replaceable but a life isn't.
