BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Within a matter of hours, seven residents in Brownsville's West Alton Gloor subdivision became the victims of burglary.
"The initial reports that came in to a particular neighborhood were of that - of burglaries that were being committed within a close range," said Brownsville Police Department public information officer JJ Trevino.
Officials from the Burglary Task Force said this isn't the first time they've uncovered a slew of burglaries happening in one specific area.
"Sometimes we'll get those cluster burglaries where there's a lot of burglaries being committed in one area and it only takes one case to break open all those cluster burglaries, which is what happened in this case," said Burglary Task Force member Melissa Gonzalez.
A suspicious persons report and video surveillance lead Burglary Task Force Investigators to two juvenile suspects who police say implicated themselves and another minor. The third juvenile suspect handed over stolen property including electronics, jewelry, movies and a Rolex watch.
Police say all three juveniles implicated 22-year-old Antonio Alvarez, the man said to be the brains behind the operation.
"They came up with the name of this subject, who was supposedly kind of recruiting them and kind of like the whole mastermind of this burglary that was taking place within this area," said Trevino.
Alvarez has since been booked for two counts of burglary of a habitation and two counts of engaging in organized criminal activity.
Neighbors have said they've invested in fences and surveillance cameras to avoid further incidents like these.
