String of auto fatalities over Memorial Day weekend

It's common to expect heavy traffic during busy holiday weekends, just like the one we had over Memorial Day Weekend.

But now the latest in car fatalities in the city of Edinburg, the most recent, involving this   21-year-old man, Jonathon Sanchez, who was charged with criminal negligence homicide after crashing into another car.

Ltn.  Oscar Treviño of Edinburg P.D. says, "We do have a woman, the passenger, she is at McAllen Medical Center in critical condition.

This accident in particular, the last of the third, took place near Frontage 281, on Saturday.

According to Edinburg P.D., Sanchez was driving a ford pickup through the area of Alberta Road and Business 281 when he ripped through the stop sign.

Following the trafic wreck, Sanchez ended up at the Hospital himself, but he's now being held at the Hidalgo County Jail after his day court, following his arraignement.

The woman who was killed in the the stop sign related fatality is identified as Maria Isabel Garcia of McAllen.

As for the other two fatalities during Memorial Day weekend, police say those involved alcohol.
