Stigma Exists Among Men for Checking on Prostate Cancer
HIDALGO COUNTY - For many men the fight against prostate cancer is a every day battle and one local resident, Manuel Zarratelascars, walked for prostate awareness and the stigma that exists among men specifically in the Hispanic community.
Dr. Suresh Ratnam, from the Texas Oncology, talked about that stigma saying, "I think there are sort of these cultural impediments to checking ones prostate for instance. These are not things perhaps that men like to discuss publicly with family or friends. At age fifty it is very important for all men to be checked."
One of the key dangers of prostate cancer is it's proximity to the spine and the potential for it to quickly spread.
