A new study done by the Workers Defense Project called Build a Better Texas is releasing disturbing news about the Texas construction industry.

Texas is the most deadly state to work construction, with one in every five workers being seriously injured on the job. And these poor conditions exist in Hidalgo County too.

Local community groups are saying more needs to me done to protect the workers.

"So our main message is that there are a lot of abuses that are well documented thanks to UT-Austin and the Workers Defense Project, we want legislators to take action please," said Hector Guzman, South Texas Civil Rights Project.

The 2010 Census shows in Texas, over 950 thousand Texans work in construction. That is one our of every 13 people in the state.
